Re: Our Expectations now we are a Tier 1 Miner

This concern about ‘depleting telfer’s stockpile’… well until handover date isn’t it Newmont’s stockpile to deplete? They must have some agreement regarding that; they have stopped train 2 full stop (no issues, it’s perfectly capable of running) and train 1 is processing at about 2/3rds capacity. Gi...

Re: Our Expectations now we are a Tier 1 Miner

My mate says the 14 day requirement is complete. He was flat out and I couldn’t ask anything else but that’s the important part I guess 👍

Re: Our Expectations now we are a Tier 1 Miner

Yes I agree that article must have been referring to the tails issue discovered on Christmas Eve last year.

All mills and crushers are humming along nicely just now I’m told, I think 4 or 5 days left in the 14 day requirement?

Re: Our Expectations now we are a Tier 1 Miner

Well I could be wrong on some of this but I don’t believe any of those things happened. Yes, they had the extended downtime but I would think the lead time for those components would be substantial. Of those items I would be most concerned about cyclone feed pump VSDs in the longer term, but a great...

Re: Our Expectations now we are a Tier 1 Miner

My understanding is that it got to about 13 1/2 days and a valve fault has flooded the plumbing space under the tails thickener, it’s quite a job to get out all the mud so they can get to the problem to repair it. Mills and crushers were humming along nicely, but mills had to be turned off while the...

Re: Tailings Dams

Both trains now up and running, ahead of schedule.

I would imagine next thing is the fire up the two surface crushers, then, when there’s enough in the tanks, start up the copper press.

Business as usual 👍

Re: ShinyBits

My understanding is that the tailings dam is good to go, and the capacity increase for TSF8 will be ongoing and should be enough for at least 10 to 15 years. Train 1 has been started up, at a reduced capacity and gradually ramping up while any restart issues are ironed out. I’ll know a bit more in a...

Re: What’s next? - GGP instant cash and 700koz-900koz producer

Does anyone know how Greatlands is proposing to achieve the reported 3-400kOz in the 24-25 fin year from Telfer? In 23-24 they achieved 349kOz I believe, and neither of the mills have spun in anger this financial year. I think the previous year was 426kOz but I stand to be corrected. So best case No...

Re: What would you do next? If you were Shaun Day

1. Continue to let the mill process the Telfer ore? 2. Start up the second mill and process more of the Telfer Ore? On the first point, on Nov 1 this year there will be no option whatsoever of what ore to process, if you want ore through the plant it will be from Telfer. On the second point, I unde...

Re: Deal done - and set to release

Shinybits, I work for a NS O&G operator. We were previously owned by a global supermajor and bought by an independent around 8 years ago. During the take over period so many rumours swirled around about T's & C's both good and bad. In the end and even now the place mostly runs like it did w...

Re: Deal done - and set to release

I am told that the DEMIRS (mines regulator) was voluntarily invited up to Telfer last week to have a look at progress on the tails dam, to show good faith and I’d imagine there is full confidence that approval will be given to recommence use of the tails storage (and by extension the plant, which in...

Re: Deal done - and set to release

Very interesting response that Shiny! We had always assumed both trains had their own gold circuits. But if not that suggests to me categorically NCM always intended both trains to go into a common circuit once Hav was in production. Yes mate they’re separate up to a point, but beyond that I’m not ...

Re: Deal done - and set to release

Thank's Shinybits for sharing your detailed knowledge of the Telfer / Hav situation. Would you care to share any of your mining industry history? Are the comments to Telfer staff in the public domain? Are you in Aus or UK? Let's hope the two weeks is for real. It's been a long wait so far this year...

Re: Deal done - and set to release

Yep certainly back then efforts were made to allocate a whole slab of land for construction of a whole new CCD for train 2, and the electrical engineers were certainly in the midst of a preliminary investigation regarding the existing power station having sufficient excess capacity to run it all in ...

Re: Deal done - and set to release

How ironic that newcrest openly say Telfer train 2 is being plumbed up to take 6mt per annum from Havieron. May I respectfully ask where this came from? Certainly nothing at all has been done as yet to separate train 1 from train 2, if they want them separate they will need a whole new CCD and CIL ...

Re: Tailings Dams

Newmont has permission from DEMIRS to go full steam ahead with the TSF8 stage 2 uplift. The repairs required to start the plant again are aiming for mid September, and the stage 2 uplift by January. This is all going very well and bodes well for the future. There is a phenomenal amount of works bein...

Re: Tailings Dams

Telfer’s projected (wish list?) restart date for both trains has been moved from 1st Sept to 1st Oct. They have permission from DEMIRS (31 May) to not only carry out the repairs on TSF8, but they have preliminary permission to work towards the TSF8 uplift to increase its capacity. I believe this is ...

Re: Havieron Decline

Telfer has 4 shafts, with 2 large high voltage vent fans each in a sort of ‘Y’ configuration. All 4 are extraction, and the fresh air is drawn in through the portal. On the surface is a huge chiller room with fans that blast cooled air in to the portal to be drawn down to the bottom, as you can imag...

Re: New Shaun Day Interview on Proactive

The circumstances at Telfer won’t improve any time soon. With the current tails dam issues they have stated that the plant will be offline until at least September, best case scenario. Having said that, Newmont absolutely has to resolve the tails dam issue whether they sell it, keep it or close it, ...
