Is there a way to see historical holdings?

I've been looking at whether ordinary buying and selling by GDXJ (outside of rebalances) really affects the GGP price, but I lost my earlier records.

I did write down that on 27 May they owned 202.4 million of GGP and the GDXJ AUM was $4.1 billion.
Then on 9 June they had 199.9 million with an AUM of $3.9 billion.

After the latest rebalance which dropped GGP to 9p:
21 June 181.8M and AUM $3.7B
latest 24 June 184.2M and AUM $3.7B

My data comes from https://www.vaneck.com/us/en/investment ... /holdings/

They have another fund, the GDXJ UCITS ETF traded in Europe which is about a tenth of the size, currently holding 19 million GGP

The amount held changes daily, and the last trade of the day, is most likely them balancing the books based on what funds they have had in/taken out.

i used to record this information every day, along with statistics of trades, but gave up after about a year.

I don’t believe there is a way to retrieve historical data, unless you record it or save the holdings spreadsheet on a daily basis yourself.

Happy to be proved wrong.

Well that's more like it - 4m have been added in the last 3 weeks. This is becoming like our very own share buyback scheme which we don't have to fund. Keep doing your thing GDXJ.

This is the chart for GDXJ.

It makes no sense that GDXJ could have been adding 4m shares in the last week. That would reflect buying pressure and a rising price. But it's clear from the chart it's been selling off for weeks.

Any ideas what the reason is for the inconsistency unless the figures are a few weeks old?

My understanding of how these things work is as follows:

The value of one "share" of GDXJ is defined by the value of the constituent component shares, thus if the constituents reduce then the GDXJ will reduce.
GDXJ will buy and sell shares in the constituent shares in proportionate amounts depending on the inflow and outflow of money into the fund.

Therefore, if there is a net inflow of money to GDXJ, then the number of GDXJ "shares" are increased and the money is invested in the constituent shares.

You should not link a reduction in the GDXJ price with an outflow of funds from the ETF.

The symptoms at the moment are that, while the constiutuents are reducing in value, money is being invested into the GDXJ.
