Our Expectations now we are a Tier 1 Miner

Longer term we will get dividends plus a sp we all expect, whatever ones expectations. The question is when.....and that's the question we all ponder in our twilight years, sooner or later, in my humble opinion I personally think it will be late 26 when all the ducks align to quote fellow boarders back in 2020 pre Gervais

We are waiting for the confirmation that Telfer has been working for 14 full days.

This is when we need an update from Shinybits

My understanding is that it got to about 13 1/2 days and a valve fault has flooded the plumbing space under the tails thickener, it’s quite a job to get out all the mud so they can get to the problem to repair it. Mills and crushers were humming along nicely, but mills had to be turned off while the tails thickener can’t be used.

I’m told this was Sunday or Monday? Still ongoing and from the description I’d say still at least a couple of days to get it fixed.

I hope you do not mind me asking but back in March Telfer Mill had a Christmas wish list from an observer which was to upgrade the
SAG cyclo converters
The stacker substations and
The cyclone feed pump VSD's , although at that time the existing gear was doing a great job being well served by a dedicated crew.
Was there any developments during the summer with these things or any other bits and pieces done to the mill.
I know Newmont has spent a lot of money on it.
Thanks

Well I could be wrong on some of this but I don’t believe any of those things happened. Yes, they had the extended downtime but I would think the lead time for those components would be substantial.

Of those items I would be most concerned about cyclone feed pump VSDs in the longer term, but a great deal of this type of equipment is 20 years old, and whilst it has all done a great job over the years, spare parts are no doubt hard to come by as I’m sure modern equipment is completely different.

If Greatland wishes to run this plant for another 20 years (Newcrest and Newmont haven’t looked more than 2 years ahead for a long time) then they would be well advised to look ahead to plan for replacement of the ancillary equipment that runs the gear that becomes a show-stopper when it fails.

The SAG cycloconverters are a big ticket item, in the short time I was there they never had any problems and I recall a sparky saying they were one of the most reliable things in the whole place… but nothing lasts forever!

Many thanks SB for your considered thoughts much appreciated. Liam has also subsequently posted this morning that he has heard (hopefully verified!) that the fault has been cleared and the mill is being restarted.
Would be nice to hear more of this when SD is interviewed this weekend on Sunday Roast
Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🙋🏽‍♂️

Thank you very much Shinybits for your response.
You are a great help to the likes of me and others who have no knowledge of processing mills.

We know a man who has experience at taking over End of Life Gold mines.

He must have met the situation where they have had to plan for the equipment to be replaced either due to improved modern equipment that makes a financial case for replacement or due to age/risk of failure.

There must be a risk register that includes the actions to be taken to mitigate any failure, and a budget especially for the critical path items, and therefore must have the plans for improvements at Telfer to be completed before the ore from Havieron starts to be processed.

Thanks Shinybits for your insight

It would be great to get an update from Telfer on the current situation from site, (shinybits if you can). Not sure if we will get another RNS until all conditions satisfied, and a date for completion.

Been trying to find latest position regarding Telfer down time due to Valve failure.
Posted 'Newmont Mining down time Is the recent problem been solved into Bing search.
Answer received.
"Sources say Newmont is unlikely to return the mill to operation until at least the end of January with potential potential for its stoppage to last as long as eight weeks".
Note No dates etc or source info are provided in this reply by Bing.
Overall a little worrying as no official updates being given yet.
Hopefully just a rumour without foundation.
The last thing I want is to post unsubstantiated info so perhaps this will/should be deleted by the authorities on GGP Chat?

Hi Poniexpress. I searched for the quote "Sources say Newmont is unlikely to return the mill" and this is what Google responded.

In my mind, Bing has found a quote from The Australian from early this year so they were referring to end of January 24.

Yes I agree that article must have been referring to the tails issue discovered on Christmas Eve last year.

All mills and crushers are humming along nicely just now I’m told, I think 4 or 5 days left in the 14 day requirement?

Rational Assessor & Shinybits,
Thanks for your replies and likely explanation.
I accept what you say and I should have realised such.
Yesterday was a 'heavy' day for me on several fronts and at the time of posting I was pretty whacked.
Its put my mind at rest and I also note the Newmont results which I haven,t looked at yet.
Good luck.

Hey Ponie - hope you’re OK - have you just been overdoing it?
Best regards, Red.

Hi Red,
Not really, apart from 1 incident (bad) and 1 later (good).
Day started badly with computer problem (I hate those types of problems). Just using it normally when Bang! Screen froze, large worded message flashing and voice loudly saying computer infected with Trojan virus and to not sign out and to phone a number on screen. Message repeated loudly and continually every 2 seconds after finishing. Done my head in. But I took the plunge and switched it off at wall and thought Bug 'er' them. Manually checked various accounts etc and all seemed ok.
Switched computer back on and has all been working normally since but keeping a very strict eye on things. Time consuming though.
A couple of other minor (in comparison) physical including Chain sawing problems which added to tiredness.
Later on, an offer(good :o ) which I could not refuse which was a pleasant experience. That was a bit energy sapping also I must admit.
Like most LTH here been anxiously waiting news and felt I had to try and find out some news from somewhere- Hence my not very clever Bing enquiry.
But as they say patience is a virtue (I don't like things delayed) not that anythings delayed at this point of time).
Its been a long journey, That's for sure.
Hope your keeping well. I like what you do on the other GGP site but find so much "rubbish" there proportionately I rarely post now. Waiting for the change.
Hopefully this non news post will be tolerated on here.
Good luck.

Hey Ponie - that’s the thing about non news posts, they are often posted by people going through actual events affecting their lives, like you say some good and some bad. It would be a sad state of affairs if we can’t support fellow GGPers just a little bit!! Anyway here’s to GGP bringing you (and us all) every bit of joy possible. Good luck to you 👍👍

Thank for the update Shiny, at sea yesterday but back on land now. Having times when you cannot get new is concerning, a bit like with GGP WA, we have to wait for info, thanks again I was not sure if the 14 day finished this weekend, but seems likely at end of month, not sure we will now take over on ¹ November.

Any day now may be confirmation of successful operation of the plant, hopefully via shiny bits or via RNs, we are then only awaiting confirmation all other parts of the deal are complete. Then we should get a date when the deal completes, from what I have seen this is likely to be before 1 December. GLA
