But Newcrest shares have continued falling over the past month. The stock lost more than 8 per cent and is now half the price it was fetching in August 2019.
Then, the major concern hanging over Newcrest was its perceived lack of growth options.
Newcrest chief Sandeep Biswas has spent the past few years soothing those fears, buying a mine that provides an immediate injection of gold production (Canada’s Brucejack), obtaining a good medium-term option at Western Australia’s Havieron and a long-term, blue-sky project at Canada’s Red Chris.
